Why do an annual review of Abuse Prevention???

Why do you do an annual review of your Abuse Prevention Plan? Is it because…
👉 Your insurance company requires it?
👉 Your Abuse Prevention Plan says you have to?
👉 It’s simply something that gets checked off the list every year?
Those may be reasons to do the review. But they aren’t the reasons it matters. A meaningful annual review should help your organization:
🔎 Find the gaps between what your plan says and what actually happens.
🛡️ Strengthen your safeguards before a concern or incident exposes a weakness.
🤝 Make sure staff and volunteers understand their responsibilities — and are actually following the protocols.
📋 Demonstrate your Duty of Care to the children, youth and vulnerable adults you serve.
💬 Ask the questions that don’t get asked when you’re simply checking the paperwork.
Your Abuse Prevention Plan may be excellent on paper. But is it working in practice?

Practical Tools for a Stronger Abuse Prevention Review.
This is not an external audit or inspection. It’s an opportunity for your own team to step back, look beyond the paperwork, ask better questions and strengthen your prevention practices. Bring your team. Bring your lunch. Bring your questions.
